Pump You Up

I have been waiting for this movie to release for months now! And finally it's here. If you are involved, or interested in the fitness world you have to check out this film. It's a little slow, but it blows the doors off the question "what is sports enhancement?" and asks the questions are steriods the side effect of America? You be the judge.

Change

Yesterday something incredible happend. Whether you agree, dissagree, like it or not America has opened it's doors and is at a crossroads. Good or bad is to be decided, either way things this year will "change".
I'm ready for change, not only economically & politically and nationally, but personally. In my own life, I'm desiring 2009 to be a year of blessings, success, and growth.

That man above has a huge load on his shoulders, and besides my personal beliefs towards some of his social policies I appreciate his character and his boldness to be a leader. I think Obama should be the most prayed for man in the nation this year. Mr. President Obama, I'm praying for you.

What's your Playlist?

Tune in & Tune out. Everywhere you look in gyms today people are plugged-in to their personal music devices. With robotic precision we fill our water bottles, grab a towel, and inject the mini speakers directly in our heads.

Personally I miss the days when it was cool to walk around with a boombox on your shoulders and blast it so all could hear (not that I was cool enough to do that, but from my white suburban upbringing it looked rad on tv).

So what are we listening too? Do you just shuffle, and let the sounds gods choose your pump up tunes or do you strategically design a playlist so that no moment goes by un-rocked???>

Will the real Boise please stand up

Today's featured article at Menshealth.com listed the "Best 100 Cities for Men" in the U.S. And I feel like I have to stand up for my city a little here! Boise scored a overall rank of 24th out of 100. Not bad... But I truly stand firm in that it should at least be inside the top 10! Bold you think?! Here's my top 10 of why Boise should be in Menshealth Top 10:

1. Camel's Back: sure it's a popular waterbag to most people, but here it's a park!

2. The Foothills: somewhere between Mt. Everest and the Sahara God decided to just make something 'average'... nevertheless they're infested with bike trails, jogging routes, hiking trails and a beautiful view of the treasure valley at sunset that make them undeniably top 10 worthy.

3. Downtown: Known to the locals as "BoDo". yah, we're cool like that. Urban enough to be called a downtown, yet still convenient enough to ride your bike right out of the Foothills (#2 above), down eight street, park, and grab anything from pizza and a cold beer, to sushi, to fine wines and cheese.

4. Boiselife.org : Want to know, find, serve, enjoy Boise to it's fullest? Through this site you can about find it all!

5. Zoo Boise: lions, and tigers, and bears ohhh my! sure I've never been there, but it's cool we have one! just got a new giraffe I heard

6. Greenbelt: This winding stretch of pavement provides over 20 miles of paved paths, connecting 12 parks and a golf course along the river. c'mon!

7. CoffeeShops: we're no Seattle, that's for sure. But want something original? Within minutes you'll find Big City, Dawson Taylor, Flying M, Lucy's and Tomas Hammer.... take that S*Bucks!

8. NorthFace Store: sure it's new, but it's right downtown and it's fantastic! Pick up something totally-ridiculously-awesome and head right around the corner to #1,#2,#3, or #7!!!

9. The Knitting Factory: Wanna take a break from all the outdoors stuff B-town offers? This tiny concert house packs a BIG punch! grab a cold draft from the lounge and stand so close to your favorite band you'll think your on stage!

10. Bogus: It's less than an hour to the top, and your on to Freshies in the PowPow! (or maybe sketchies in the slushslush) but this year has been great for snow, so it makes the list!

Have any YOU think should be added to the list? let me know

You'll be Crushed!

honestly, as an athlete I have overcome many trials and tribulations (like all athletes have) to pursue the sport they love. But none are more damaging than those trials that are mental. The psyche of sport plays a major role in success, and the best athletes in the world have the ability to go above and beyond to overcome any defeat, especially any mental trash that cuts deeper than any physical challenge.

...Today I have been cut. As I take on the challenge to prepare myself, both physically and mentally, for the Boise Half-Ironman, today I was literally told to my face that this race was out of my ability, and that it would "crush me."

I have to say, I let it beat me. I know I'm in over my head, that this is the first race of this kind that I'm enduring. Nonetheless, I've chosen to take it on! And KNOW that with my dedication, my athletic discipline and ability that this event is mine for the taking!!! I'm going to take that mental trash and use it! Not going to let it beat me, it's now my new motivation!
